Cremation

Cremation is the process of placing a casket or container in a cremation chamber where the remains are placed under intense heat. After a few hours, all organic matter is consumed by heat and/or evaporation, leaving fragments of bone and ash. These cremated remains are carefully processed into fine particles before placed in a container or urn.

Cremation is offered through any funeral home of your choice - the funeral director handles all necessary arrangements. To find a funeral home in Minnesota, click on FUNERAL HOMES.

Prior to cremation, medical devices such as pace makers are removed. Any special mementos or jewelry also need to be removed before the casket or container is transferred to the crematory.

Although a casket is not required, state law requires the deceased be cremated in an enclosed combustible container to allow for the dignified handling and human remains. There are a wide variety of caskets and containers ranging from simple cardboard to beautiful, handcrafted caskets - the selection is a personal decision.
